Meditations for children

Meditations for children

Postby mohan » Fri Dec 30, 2011 4:29 am

Children can be taught meditation more easily than anxious adults. As our age grow it becomes difficult to meditate also the possibilities of progress become rare and then only we inquire about meditation and yoga.
The child can progress well in meditation because he is not conditioned yet. no rigid thoughts, prejudices, ideas.

We may teach children to meditate, remain silent, serene, and experience state of thoughtlessness.
How ???
Kids easily and quickly understand and learn it. There are two wonderful meditations given by Osho.

Recommended meditations for children:

GIBBERISH
Tell the children to close their eyes and then start speaking gibberish -- any meaningless sort of sound. One sound will lead to another, just start anywhere. As they gibber they can let their bodies move -- maybe their hands want to move, or their body starts swaying, dancing, or jumping up and down. And they can do it as loudly as they like.

Let them do this for 10 minutes. Afterwards they will have quieted down, become centered inside. And you will feel terrific!

WHIRLING
Children enjoy this very much because they get a great kick. Parents never allow their children to whirl. It is not good: they should be allowed -- rather, encouraged. And if you can make them aware of inner whirling also, you can teach them meditation through their whirling. They enjoy it because they have a bodiless feeling. When they whirl, suddenly children become aware that their body is whirling but they are not. Inside they feel a centering which we cannot feel so easily, because their bodies and souls are still a bit apart; there is a gap.'

Dear Mohan,
Thanks a ton. It will be of great help to members.
Children by nature are innocent & hence few impediments to the flow of energy.

It's a coincidence while I was thinking about my lone son- how to develop him spiritually, you came with the base.He is properly fit for the type of meditation you suggested. He will be 3 yrs old on 1st Feb.I must try them.Bless him- He is dynamic. :V: :rD I also came across meditation in "Guided meditation for primary students" by Budhanet's Budhist Studies. But I think those are little bit hard for 3/4 yrs oldies and will suit adults as well.
May God Bless All.

Initially I was thinking to post these words in "Thought for the Day", but it would seems better to convey here....

A moon can give more light that thousands of stars cannot. Similarly a learned and cultured kid is far better than hundreds of kids deprived of good qualities" :rD :F0

Agreed children gets more success in meditating as they meditate with pure heart without expectations hence there energies r more pure than adults.

i tried teaching meditation to many kids as part time social work the experiences with them are just amazing out of the world simply cannot be explained in words

Thanks dear all for your appreciating the topic. It is very vital discussion indeed.

We teach our children all useless things but never introduce them to Meditation, ( a real art of living) that empowers children over their thinking and emotions, not by repressive self-control, but by enhanced self-understanding and self-acceptance.
There will be shift of consciousness on this planet and the whole world can be transformed if small children start meditating.

Dear Mohanji,

Indeed very valuable information I have 2 kids and surely I will put them on this path as they have to be whole and know the path right from young age rather than learning them when they are adults.

In telugu there is a saying

" If it does not bend when it is a plant , it will never bend when it is a tree"

Thanks a tonne for your invaluable information....

Priya

Meditation or Dhyaana is a Sanskrit word. The word "Dhyaana" is created from two words "Dhi" and "Yana"

"Dhi" means receptacle or the mind and "yana" means moving or going.

Dhyana means journey or movement of the mind. It is a mental activity of the mind (dhi).

The mind is viewed as a receptacle (dhi) into which thoughts pour back and forth from the universal pool of thought forms. Today everybdy is attentive more to worldy things rather than Self-realisation and God-realisation. we all are in love with worldy things and so are minds are more attentive towards ths worldy attachments.. Saints always have been given ths message to detach our mind from worldly things and attach our mind with almighty GOD.. The more one attach him/herself with GOD, automaticly feels detach from worldy things..

Dhyaana is the process which allows our mind n inner-conscious link with the almighty GOD but for this state of mind we have to know what is GOD-realisation and Self-realisation. Once a person link him/herself through dhyaana to almighty one cmpletely surrender him/herself and move ahead in the path of Devotion..

In case, children starts meditation in such early age, that would really be beneficial in their whole life...
