Why Feelings Detective works

Recognising emotions in faces, bodies and situations is a core part of social and emotional learning (SEL). Large reviews of school SEL programmes, including Durlak and colleagues' 2011 meta-analysis of more than 270,000 students, link these skills to better behaviour and wellbeing. Each case gives three clues, accepts that people can feel two things at once, and ends with a kind response, so recognising a feeling always leads to a caring action.
